Trump starts out his rally in Fort Wayne by discussing the ever-shrinking job market. Lets be clear this is a great way to start out a rally in an area of the country that has suffered time and again from factories and large companies sending jobs over seas. You have to appeal to your specific crowd which is something Donald Trumps campaign did very well.
Trump has never been a hard hitter when it comes to giving political speeches but he excelled at almost all of his rallies. For one at a rally, you don’t really have to bring up deep political topics. More often then not you don’t actually want to, you want to keep the crowd excited and engaged and most importantly you want your supporters to feel like they’re winning. Close to 100 times Trump uses the phrase winning during his speech. He talks about defeating his opponents and winning this state and that state. Trump may not be able to give a great speech on foreign policy or on taxes or even on illegal immigration, which he is so strongly against, but he knows how to keep his audience engaged.
Later he goes on to talk about a few foreign trade policies but other than that most of what he devotes his time too is bashing his opponents. During the time that he gave this speech Ted Cruz was still one of his running opponents so most of his time is spent hammering him since Ted Cruz was coming in second behind him in almost every state. He does talk a little about Hillary as well but most of the Hillary bashing would come later when it was just the two left. His objective at the time is to win the Republican Nomination so his strategy is pretty sound in that way.
If I was Trumps campaign manager though I have to say I would change just a few things. I would definitely want him to keep emphasizing this idea of winning. Americans were tired during this election of not being the best in the world anymore. This country was built on winning from day one when we beat the largest military power in the world with a band of rebels made up of farmers and store clerks. That’s what Americans were longing for during the 2016 election. I would however want him to start bridging the gap he created between his campaign and minority groups in the country.
Many citizens that either were immigrants themselves or came from an immigrant family felt alienated by the Trump campaign. I am not saying I would advise him to back off on his illegal immigration policy reform but I would advise him to acknowledge how legal immigrants built this country. Also to discuss how our diversity is part of what makes this country so great. The most important part of Trumps campaign speeches to me would have been making sure he stayed on topic and didn’t stray to far because every time that happened something like this happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f83CrDM0K4

Donald Trump one by a pretty good margin when it came to electoral votes. Many liberals kept banking on the fact that he did not win the popular vote but Trump as a businessman understood what needed to be done. The popular vote doesn’t win elections electoral votes win elections. I think if he could have repaired his relations with women and immigrants across the nation he could have won the popular vote by a landslide.

  1. I thought it was interesting that you mention Trump knows how to keep his audience engaged. He is very good at providing his audience with a sense of inclusion and unity. I mentioned that he uses the word "we" a lot and I think that's what intrigued America when he spoke, it's what kept them listening. I like the part about how you would remind him that immigrants made this country. I thought that was an interesting approach!

  2. Not that this is hopefully any secret to people, but good on you for mentioning that immigrants were the ones that started this country. Of any presidential candidate that I have ever watched speak in my considerably short life, Trump is definitely like no other politician I have ever seen. He rally's crowds together in the weirdest ways by being entertaining and pointing the finger at other people and specific parties. I don't agree with you Tanner that Trump would have won the popular vote by a landslide if he had patched up his relationships with women and immigrants. I think the Democratic party was set on voting for Hillary and many of the undecided voters that voted for Hillary did so because of Trumps lack of political experience.

Trumps Agenda Donald Trumps website had very little when it came to the matter of his stances on political issues. However I was able to find almost all conservative politicians and there views on issue on http://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm . Then I took a look at which issues Trump deemed most important throughout his campaign and it was clear that budget and economy, immigration, and National Security were his top three.             When it came to the economy Trumps position was quite clear he planned to cut taxes from 35 percent down to 15 percent on corporations to allow them to have a larger budget for hiring American employees. This would also give some of the larger corporate organizations incentives to keep them from moving overseas. His ties to the business world and his experience in that area was what he used to assure his acolytes that he would come through on his promises in this area. Also when it came to t...

My pop culture item within the political race for the presidency I chose the Saturday Night live sketch of the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Now both candidates in this sketch were portrayed by mostly their faults in order to create humor and who doesn’t love a good laugh right? However, Trumps image in which he worked so hard to build and then worked hard to rebuild after a few mistakes along the way was completely wrecked by the SNL crew.             First off Trump took great pride in looking the part physically all the way through the campaign. He was well groomed and wore the black suite with the red power tie to all of his events portraying a real sense of leadership and dominance. Alec Baldwin did portray Trump with the same suite yet the wig he used to make the hair was an awful resemblance. Even though Trumps hair is somewhat of an enigma it is not that bad. Second of all the make-up...

The first two news outlets I took a look at were the Washington Times and Fox news. Both had completely different stories brewing over the Trump administration but both gave great insights into their reporting style.              If we look at Fox news first their main story was over Trumps promise to have a tax plan put in place by August. Trumps administration has already said that this is nearly impossible and they don’t believe it will be done according to the scheduled time line. Fox was actually not critical of the president’s team in anyway. They were very supportive talking about how this is a normal occurrence when it comes to a party switch in the white house. It took Reagan two years to put in a tax plan and they seem to understand that the August promise was simply a normal campaign promise that Trump used to further his cause.        ...
