My clips show Donald Trump locked in heated debate with Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz, two of his most successful opponents in the early parts of the election process. First I want to discuss his debate with Jeb Bush, ( the clip above) it begins with the discussion of campaign funds and how much influence donators have on a politicians campaign. Trump clearly says that Bush has accepted 100 million in donations and Bush accepts that number yet says it in no way influences him in one way or another.
To start Trump really makes a great point he says he has been on the other side of that for many years. Bush tries to make arguments about how Trump has donated to Hillary and a few other democrats in the past but the sheer fact is it doesn’t matter who he donated to, all that matters is that he donated. He knows exactly how much influence a donator has on a politician. Hillary Clinton came to his wedding because of campaign donations to me that screams influence.
Bush and Trump go on to talk about immigration and here is where trumps points get a little weak. First he attacked Bush’s wife for being a Mexican born immigrant ( who is now a citizen by the way), saying that Bush has a soft spot for Mexican immigrants. Bush pushes back on this talking about how the country is at a divide and we need a leader with a Reagan like policy on immigration to bring the country back together all while claiming Trumps immigration policy just causes more division. Trump brings up that Bush says the immigrants are coming here out of love and Trump points out that there are good people coming here but the problems being caused by other immigrants is not love at all. Trumps main rebuttal to Bush’s statements on immigration was that Bush was weak on immigration.
If I were advising Donald Trump during his debate on immigration with Bush I would have wanted him to use and declare his tough stance on immigration. The people need to see the clear difference in Bushes and Trumps immigration policies which could have helped push more voters to Trumps side with the countries feelings on immigration right now.
At the close of this debate between the two candidates Bush brings up the fact again that Trump has been a Hillary supporter in the past. I think it was crucial to trumps debate stance that early on he stated that of course he was friends with all politicians he was a business man. If you study anything about international business you know you have to have the backing of politicians in powerful positions to make decisions when it comes to international trade, regardless of that politicians affiliations. Hillary is a democrat yes but once was our Secretary of State and as such had tremendous responsibility with our international relations. Trump is a successful man who understands you have to put your own politics aside to make money.
The second short debate to the left was Trump against Cruz. Cruz was claiming how a lot of Trumps stances on things like Planned Parenthood were very liberal. Trump fires back first by calling Cruz a liar, and quickly setting his own platform, which I think he did very well. After discrediting Cruz’s statements Cruz says that Donald Trump is a supporter of Planned Parenthood and Trump doesn’t deny it. This is a crucial turning point for the debate; Trump says he knows Planned Parenthood does great things when it comes to women’s health but he draws the line with abortion and is strongly pro-life. This could have helped to sway undecided women who are pro-life themselves but feel that Planned Parenthood should remain due to their other health care efforts.
Overall Trump made solid points to back his positions and rebuttal the opposition. This is all you can ask for in a good debate. However, with the issues surrounding this particular election I think trump should have brought up his Planned Parenthood support much earlier on to help his polling in the female margin. I also think he should have discussed his budget plans more than he did. I realize discussing a political budget can be dry and boring but out of all the people in the debates Trump has the most experience handling money. I think he could have helped show how little some of the other candidates know when it comes to working with a budget of billions and a debt upwards of trillions.

  1. I agree with you that Trump has a strong background and defends himself about donating to Clintons campaign very well. Although having confidence matters in a campaign, his outrageous remarks can be hard to watch. One thing he did well during these debates rather than the other debates closer to election was having good rebuttals and information on his issues rather than not explaining and jumping around. I think he backs up his points very well and stands for what he believes in regardless of other candidates trying to highlight past investments or his issues.

  2. Tanner I like how you used that exchange between Donald Trump and Jeb Bush, definitely one of the most memorable moments from any of the primary debates for the 2016 election. I agree with you that Donald did a great job at defending himself from the attacks that Jeb Bush attempted. However, in my opinion, Trump's opinion on Jeb's wife wasn't ethical or correct, but it wasn't a weak statement. He stuck behind the statement and refused to admit defeat to Jeb in that argument, whether people liked what Trump had to say or not. Overall, great blog post!

  3. Your introductory paragraphs are very interesting. I think it was a great strategy for Trump to discuss the fact that he has been the one in previous elections who was donating to a candidate's campaign. I also liked how you used Trump vs. Bush, because I used the same people for my blog. I think its hilarious how Trump is relentlessly bashing on Bush.

Trumps Agenda Donald Trumps website had very little when it came to the matter of his stances on political issues. However I was able to find almost all conservative politicians and there views on issue on http://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm . Then I took a look at which issues Trump deemed most important throughout his campaign and it was clear that budget and economy, immigration, and National Security were his top three.             When it came to the economy Trumps position was quite clear he planned to cut taxes from 35 percent down to 15 percent on corporations to allow them to have a larger budget for hiring American employees. This would also give some of the larger corporate organizations incentives to keep them from moving overseas. His ties to the business world and his experience in that area was what he used to assure his acolytes that he would come through on his promises in this area. Also when it came to t...

My pop culture item within the political race for the presidency I chose the Saturday Night live sketch of the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Now both candidates in this sketch were portrayed by mostly their faults in order to create humor and who doesn’t love a good laugh right? However, Trumps image in which he worked so hard to build and then worked hard to rebuild after a few mistakes along the way was completely wrecked by the SNL crew.             First off Trump took great pride in looking the part physically all the way through the campaign. He was well groomed and wore the black suite with the red power tie to all of his events portraying a real sense of leadership and dominance. Alec Baldwin did portray Trump with the same suite yet the wig he used to make the hair was an awful resemblance. Even though Trumps hair is somewhat of an enigma it is not that bad. Second of all the make-up...

The first two news outlets I took a look at were the Washington Times and Fox news. Both had completely different stories brewing over the Trump administration but both gave great insights into their reporting style.              If we look at Fox news first their main story was over Trumps promise to have a tax plan put in place by August. Trumps administration has already said that this is nearly impossible and they don’t believe it will be done according to the scheduled time line. Fox was actually not critical of the president’s team in anyway. They were very supportive talking about how this is a normal occurrence when it comes to a party switch in the white house. It took Reagan two years to put in a tax plan and they seem to understand that the August promise was simply a normal campaign promise that Trump used to further his cause.        ...
