My pop culture item within the political race for the presidency I chose the Saturday Night live sketch of the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Now both candidates in this sketch were portrayed by mostly their faults in order to create humor and who doesn’t love a good laugh right? However, Trumps image in which he worked so hard to build and then worked hard to rebuild after a few mistakes along the way was completely wrecked by the SNL crew.
First off Trump took great pride in looking the part physically all the way through the campaign. He was well groomed and wore the black suite with the red power tie to all of his events portraying a real sense of leadership and dominance. Alec Baldwin did portray Trump with the same suite yet the wig he used to make the hair was an awful resemblance. Even though Trumps hair is somewhat of an enigma it is not that bad. Second of all the make-up they use on Alec Baldwin to give him the carrot orange tint is absolutely awful. Trumps skin at times did seem to have an orange tint but not so much as to look like a freshly peeled carrot. From the beginning of the sketch it was clear that SNL had their sights on Trump and they were determined to be relentless.
It began with the attack on his image but then continued with an attack on his overall intelligence and leadership capabilities. They portrayed him calling the country China “Jina” and trying to say things about Hillary that didn’t even make sense. He never referred to the moderator by the correct name he began by calling him Jazzman and later called him Coltrane. They made an effort to portray him as an ignorant man vying for an office he could never win. With Hillary mocking him all the way saying basically she won the debate hands down which is also very misleading. They even went as far as to attack Trumps supporters basically calling them uncivilized with their comments.
After this they took a jab at some of Trumps more inappropriate comments on topics such as race. With Baldwin saying things like “All the blacks in Chicago live on one street and its called Hell Street.” Trump has said some inappropriate racial things in the past but nothing was even close to this inconsiderate or untactful. He had recently been trying to build relationships with minority groups when this video came out which didn’t help his image in the least.

Finally to touch on image again Trump does have some weird facial expressions especially his resting face when he is at the podium. His bottom lip is larger than his almost non-existent top lip and he does have a tendency to squeeze his lips together in a round shape when talking but Baldwin walked around with his lip so far out someone could have tripped on it and compared his mouth to an anus. All the while blaming everything on Hillary. At the end he even brought up Bill Clintons infidelity which by the way he didn’t actually do in the debate. He applauded himself after the debate for having the restraint to not talk about. Clearly the SNL team targeted Trump for some very clear reasons because it made for a great SNL sketch.
I mean take a look at the picture to the left, that looks like it hurts, if I tried to do that all the muscles in my face might freeze like that.

  1. I like this skit of SNL it was one of the better ones for each candidate. I think it was a good thing to choose because SNL is such a popular show with all of their featured guests.

Trumps Agenda Donald Trumps website had very little when it came to the matter of his stances on political issues. However I was able to find almost all conservative politicians and there views on issue on http://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm . Then I took a look at which issues Trump deemed most important throughout his campaign and it was clear that budget and economy, immigration, and National Security were his top three.             When it came to the economy Trumps position was quite clear he planned to cut taxes from 35 percent down to 15 percent on corporations to allow them to have a larger budget for hiring American employees. This would also give some of the larger corporate organizations incentives to keep them from moving overseas. His ties to the business world and his experience in that area was what he used to assure his acolytes that he would come through on his promises in this area. Also when it came to t...

The first two news outlets I took a look at were the Washington Times and Fox news. Both had completely different stories brewing over the Trump administration but both gave great insights into their reporting style.              If we look at Fox news first their main story was over Trumps promise to have a tax plan put in place by August. Trumps administration has already said that this is nearly impossible and they don’t believe it will be done according to the scheduled time line. Fox was actually not critical of the president’s team in anyway. They were very supportive talking about how this is a normal occurrence when it comes to a party switch in the white house. It took Reagan two years to put in a tax plan and they seem to understand that the August promise was simply a normal campaign promise that Trump used to further his cause.        ...
