In the first commercial ad (above) I looked
at, Trumps message was delivered in a very positive light. It was just
that a message, about how Trump plans to bring jobs back to the U.S. and of
course how that will Make America Great Again. His opponent or opponents are
never mentioned in this ad which is interesting, many ads tend to at least take
a little jab at the opponent but this one never mentions anyone but Trump and
the American worker making it a candidate-positive ad with little to no
controversy something Trump is not known for. This ad helps to boost the Trump
image and take focus off of possibly controversial topics of the moment. The
Super PAC Rebuilding America Now, however, paid for this ad, so it does not
reflect the campaigns direct strategies.
wanting to help the Trump Campaign surpass Clintons after she clearly called
those donating to the Trump campaign deplorable. She called these people Islama-phobes,
homophobes, and many other unpleasant names lumping all Trump supporters into a
stigmatized group of bad people. This could only have strengthened the already
Trump supporting voters positive opinions toward their candidate. However, it
likely did very little if anything to convincing undecided parties, which in my
opinion is a weakness of opponent bashing ads.
In this next commercial ad by the
Trump campaign (right) his opponent is never directly targeted verbally yet her picture
is used in the ad a couple of times. This ad mainly focuses on the corrupt
political system as a whole. The ad uses what sounds like pieces and parts of a
Donald Trump Speech or Speeches as the audio. Over and over again the draining
political system is called out for loose immigration and disastrous trade deals
leading to our country hemorrhaging funds. Pictures of Obama and his
presidential team are used as well telling me the main push this ad is trying
to make is a call for change. Not just a change in office though a change in
the traditional scheme of things. Electing a businessman to the Oval Office
rather than another politician is what it seems this ad aims to get across.
This ad is directed to everyone even supporters of the opposing side trying to sew
the idea that maybe it is time to try something new since clearly politicians
have been letting us down for far to long. This is clearly an attack ad
(attacking the incumbent even though he isn’t running) along with the rest of
the previous political machine. This could also be a strategy to promote the
business side of Donald Trump and the moneymaking and managing experience he
brings to the table since the countries extreme debt is mentioned a few times
in this ad. Overall this ad tries to promote the Image of Trump as the
anti-politician and clear choice to fix the countries problems.
The final ad I want to mention (below) is
more of a clear cut attack ad against Clinton. It highlights how her policies
have allowed ISIS and terrorism to spread, her lying about her private email
use, and her statements about Trump supporters being deplorable. This is
clearly an attempt by the Trump campaign team to highlight Hillary Clintons
biggest mistakes throughout the campaign and her political career simply to
discredit her as a leader capable of controlling the country. The goal of this
would be to make undecided voters really contemplate Clinton’s mistakes before
deciding one way or the other.
I first want to say I like the layout of this blog. Very nice. I also did my blog on Trump and you are saying many similar things that I mentioned about the ads I chose. Some of the ads are nice and positive, giving him a positive image. On the other hand, there are some ads that are straight up scary to watch. Nonetheless, I think that most of his campaign ads were successful. He mostly attacks Hillary in his campaign ads, but he did a decent job of having some variety, I'm which was effective in my book.
ReplyDeleteI talked about the "deplorable" ad in my blog as well, and you are spot on saying that the ad caused Trump supporters to unite and strengthen their views on Trump. It's quite obvious watching any one of his rallies that many Donald Trump supporters are super passionate about their candidate, so when the opponent attacks not only Trump but his supporters, they view that as offensive. It was a huge mistake on Hillary's part to say those comments. Candidates should always make sure when they say something, that their own comments wont come back to haunt them.
